New Members

Who are we?

We are the Unionized membership providing services across all qathet School District’s schools, programs and operations to maintain welcoming, safe, healthy and open facilities.  Our offices are on the traditional and treaty lands of the Tla’amin Nation, in the qathet Region of the Coast Salish peoples.

What do we do?

With direction of the members, the Union executive negotiate and maintain a collective agreement with the employer. Through your membership, we as unionized workers come together to make decisions about working conditions such as wages, work hours, benefits, workplace health, safety as well as morale, wellbeing and any other work-related and social issues.

Representation

Members are entitled to representation from their Union at any time they request it.  In some cases, an Administrator will even request our presence.  Keeping up-to-date and staying in touch with us helps us ensure the board does not exercise its management rights in a manner that is arbitrary, discriminatory, or in bad faith.

Representation is most often provided by the President or Vice-President.  As we grow & train our Steward/Representatives, they may become available.  Any Executive member is approachable to answer questions or help guide you.

Membership Meetings

Our meetings are hybrid – our members can attend in-person or join a video call. Look for the date of the next meeting on your workplace’s CUPE bulletin board.

Coming together as a group, we can learn of and discuss the everyday experiences faced by our members, across our local, worksites and community, then work to develop solutions together.

Registration

If you haven’t yet, please fill in our Registration Form so that we know who you are.

Changes to Employment

It is your right and obligation to stay in touch as well as to keep us informed with any work-related changes to your employment as agreed in your appointment letter.
