K-12 Bargaining Survey

The BC K-12 Bargaining Committee is preparing to begin work on a new provincial agreement. As part of these preparations they are reaching out to all support workers at K-12 facilities to learn what is most important to them.

Follow the link below to take the survey and share your perspective:

Some notes to consider:

  • Our district doesn’t differentiate between EA categories, use the description that best suits your duties.
  • If you work less than 7 hours, you are a part-time employee.
  • If you are laid off over the summer, you work 10 months or less.

FYI – “No Unpaid Work”

At this time of year, there are many requests for our members to volunteer their time after work. Here is a relevant line from the K-12 President’s Council’s Provincial Framework Agreement; the document that lays out a province-wide standard for school support workers:

In accordance with the Employment Standards Act, no employee shall be required or permitted to perform unpaid hours of work.

We hope this is helpful. Have a wonderful holiday season!

Support Striking Postal Workers

Just a reminder to stand in solidarity with the postal workers who are on the picket line right now. There has been a lot of disinformation about the strike, but if you find yourself frustrated with disruptions in service be sure to direct those frustrations at Canada Post and not its employees, who are merely seeking fair pay and job security.

The members of our local post office have asked us to share that “postal workers, not Canada Post will be accepting letters to Santa and we will be delivering them on time, as usual. CUPW members have always and will always do this work for free and with pleasure. [they] will be on the picket line, at the Post Office from 8-5, Monday to Friday until the work stoppage ends.” and add that no postage is necessary.
